Smart Cities: Rest & Connect
In Spring of 2021 HCDE 536, we were challenged to come up with a video prototype that solves a smart city problem. This is my rough exploration.
Problem Statement
People are not resting. We are not able to, not encouraged to, and do not have space to slow down, rest, dream, play, tell stories, and connect together and with the earth just for the sake of it - for the sheer fact that we are human beings on earth, rather than existing to only produce and feeling like we are never doing enough.
Why is it a problem
We are not meant to live lives devoid of rest and play and day dreaming. It is unhealthy and traumatizing to our bodies, especially to forgo all of these basic, primitive, and restorative instincts during global and systemic tragedies. Furthermore, we are inflicting harm on our earth as part of pushing ourselves to the limit. If we rest, the earth will also heal.
